Artist Simphiwe Ndzube sits down with Adult Education Coordinator Houghton Kinsman to discuss his painting Abahlali (2023), a recent Crocker acquisition. The pair reminisce over their formative years growing up surrounded by art in South Africa, explore Ndzube’s multifaceted painting and sculptural practices, and consider what it means to work in the diaspora at a time when contemporary art from Africa is rapidly receiving increased attention abroad.
