SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Crocker Art Museum is pleased to announce the addition of Javier “Javi” Plasencia as Director of Education. In this role, Plasencia oversees a team of eight programmers and educators in the planning and execution of more than 300 public programs, which serve approximately 35,000 individuals each year. In addition, Plasencia directs the Museum’s docent program and manages education-related grants and sponsorships.

"I am thrilled to welcome Javier Plasencia as the Crocker's new Director of Education," remarks Lial A. Jones, the Crocker's Mort and Marcy Friedman Director & CEO. "The Museum has a long history of innovative and extensive programming initiatives, and this role is integral to our work to serve the public. Javi's professional background and familiarity with the Sacramento region lend themselves beautifully to developing strong community partnerships programs that bring art to life for all visitors."

Plasencia is a seasoned arts administrator who most recently served as the Program Manager for the Museum Studies MA Program at the University of San Francisco, where he recruited, taught, and advised graduate students in the field. Plasencia has also worked as a program manager with the Arts & Design team at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York, managing public art installations on the subway and commuter rails. He has additionally coordinated educational initiatives at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and has facilitated artist initiatives at nonprofits on the East Coast. Plasencia received his MA in visual arts administration from New York University and received his BA in English literature from Columbia University.
